Pinterová, Natália
The aim and focus of the bachelor's thesis are different managers’ perspectives on solving the problems of cultural differences in the diverse teams of an international XY company. The thesis' major goal is to identify important factors and key aspects of cultural differences and management work in a diverse environment for managers. The partial goal is the identification of the obstacles and barriers managers need to face and overcome in a multicultural environment. The goals are achieved using qualitative research in the form of individual online interviews with co-owners, managers, and employees of a selected company. The qualitative research method of qualitative interviews (primary data) was used to obtain data for this bachelor thesis. The analysis for finding the main problems and differences in intercultural teams from the interviews was done in the MAXQDA program. In this thesis, are identify the necessity of communication and cooperation among people of different cultures as the most important factors for managing intercultural teams. Key aspects for manager are to learn, adapt, understand, control different communication styles, put cooperation ahead of competition; and improve language skills. The manager gets in touch the most frequently with language obstacles and barriers, which cause misunderstandings due to different views. The recommendations are to improve knowledge of language and cultural differences (a list of cultural differences is attached in the appendix), improve effective communication in teams, learn and try to understand, adapt rather than judge, and prioritize cooperation over competition. Intercultural teams are more effective and creative because people have various ways of solving problems and bring new solutions.
Language of Interaction and Communication Design
Brejcha, Jan ; Kera, Denisa (advisor) ; Strossa, Petr (referee) ; Souček, Jiří (referee)
The present work seeks to describe implicit patterns of natural language and cul- ture in human-computer interaction (HCI). Although extensive research has been done in the fields of HCI semiotics, and HCI culture, we try to bring novel insights through the semiotics perspective, and to propose a set of design guidelines for the international HCI practitioners. The steps to achieve this are: First, to define the semiotic and linguistic system of the user interface (UI) and create a related methodology, and second, to apply the acquired methodology to cross-cultural UI comparison. In the first part we propose a design and analytic method for ad- dressing UI language patterns. We defined the elements of the user-UI interaction grammar, which we then used to form our semiotic evaluation method. The semi- otic evaluation method is then compared to heuristic analysis which is already widely used in HCI. While our results show the complementarity of both the methods, semiotic analysis is able to uncover otherwise hidden aspects of the UI. The second part focuses on the ideology of the interaction. Using rhetorics and persuasion techniques the UI lead users to interact in a predetermined way. An analogy between the political and UI ideologies is showed. The third part deals with cultural differences in HCI. In...

Perception of comparative advertising in the Czech environment
Lesáková, Kateřina ; Rosenfeldová, Jana (advisor) ; Vranka, Marek (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of comparative advertising and its perception in the Czech environment. From a marketing point of view, comparative advertising represents an interesting opportunity to legally confront the competition in advertising. However, this option is little used in the Czech Republic, although comparative advertising has been permissible for twenty years. The aim of the thesis is to provide a comprehensive insight into the topic and to find out what reactions the comparative advertising in the Czech environment evokes. The theoretical part introduces comparative advertising as part of marketing communication, its legal and non-legal regulation or its perception in different cultures. Research, which deals with the issue of comparative advertising in the Czech environment, is presented additionally. The practical part then builds on the theoretical part and verifies its findings through quantitative research in the form of a questionnaire survey. Specific examples of comparative advertising are also presented. The obtained conclusions can be useful, for example, for advertisers who are considering whether to create a comparative advertisement, but also for the academic community, as this topic is not much researched in the Czech environment.

Rozbor vybraných britských antikoloniálních literárních děl
FUČÍKOVÁ, Adéla
This diploma thesis deals with analysing selected British anti-colonial fiction applying the theory of the renowned British literary critic Edward W. Said. It introduces Said´s theory of the motif of colonialism in different types of art work as the basic statement, as well as Said´s concept of ´the empire´, and these concepts will later on be applied onto individual literary works. They include the novella in a journal form Journal of a West India Proprietor by Matthew Gregory Lewis, a fable "How the Camel Got His Humph" from Just So Stories, and a poem "Gunga Din" from the collection Gunga Din and other Favorite Poems by Rudyard Kipling. My analysis will also include the novel A Passage to India by E.M. Forster, two novellas Lord Jim and Heart of Darkness and a short story "An Outpost of Progress" by Joseph Conrad, and a short story called "The Force of Circumstance" by Somerset Maugham. The main phenomena that will be analysed in this thesis are British racism towards the native people, cultural differences and misunderstandings, British superiority (very often also linked to certain naivety) over the native people. Analysing all these factors, I will strive to emphasize the authors´ artistic intentions and efforts to point them out as serious social problems. Applying the theory of Edward Said, I will support and develop my arguments.
